The Pinellas County Gator Club is your Gator home away from Gainesville! Originally founded in 1979 as an affiliate of the UF Athletic Association, we are the official chapter of University of Florida Alumni Association in Pinellas County and are here so serve you, the alumni of the greatest University in the country. Membership is open to all Gator alumni as well as friends and family members of the University of Florida.
Throughout our typical year, we can be found cheering on the Gators on at one of our official watch parties or even on a bus ride to the loudest stadium in the world, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Each of our events, whether singing “We Are the Boys/Won’t Back Down” at a football watch party, or lending a helping hand at one of our many philanthropic and community service events, is a unique networking opportunity to connect with other Gators and with the University of Florida.
Our networking and outreach events serve the University of Florida’s core mission and advancement initiatives, while also building bridges between the graying Gators of old and our newest orange and blue blooded alumni. Our events even provide opportunities to connect with Gator businesses and community leaders in the area. We truly represent all of Pinellas County and offer opportunities in St. Petersburg, North Pinellas, the beaches, and everything in between!
Our charity events vary from year to year, but we always give back to the Gator Community. We do this most prodomently in the form of scholarships. As a registered 501(C)(3), we rely on philanthropy and fundraising efforts so we may award $10,000 in scholarships each year to the Gator Nation’s next generation. To date, we have awarded over $100,000 in scholarships directly to over 125 high school seniors from Pinellas County who are enrolled at the University of Florida for their freshmen year. Our largest and most anticipated philanthropic event is our annual Tarpon Fishing Tournament, which brings anglers from all over the Tampa Bay area together to compete on the open water to raise funds for our annual scholarships.
Over the years, our club has been recognized for its success and excellence by the University of Florida Alumni Association and has won many awards including Best In State, Outstanding Communications, Young Alumni Leader of the Year and the Regional Director’s Award.
